What passing-bells for those who die like cattle?     Only the monstrous anger of the guns.Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle     Can patter out their hasty orisons. No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells,     Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs,-The shrill demented choirs of wailing shells;     And bugles calling them from sad shires. What candles may be held to speed them all?     Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyesShall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes.     The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,     And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.

I am so sorry for the loss of Richard. May his soul rest in peace. Thank you to Hazel Hunt for showing what true courage and dignity is. She like her son is an example to all. I live just down the road from Selly Oak and I read about Richard in the press. My thoughts were with him and his family on that day as they are now.

kind regards

I just wanted to say what an excellent foundation, created in memory of a real hero. My brother is currently serving in Afghanistan with the 1st Battalion the Royal Welsh, I am very proud of him. All the effort, commitment and hard work of those involved is amazing and a real inspiration. I have registered to complete the 3 peaks South Wales challenge to raise funds for this cause as it is close to my heart. Again well done on all your hard work.

As a new Zealander a long way away from the conflict which is killing your soldiers, I wish to pass on my acknowledgment of their bravery and self sacrifice, along with the lifelong suffering endured by many when they return home to the Uk, Mental suffering by families, and the soldiers along with all the pain of physical suffering to be experienced over a life time by many.

A Thank you is really never enough, but to be REMEMBERED AND to know that others pray for them, hopefully goes a long way to uplift their Spirits .

I am so sorry about the loss of Richard.  I am deeply grateful for his sacrifice, and very moved by the way his mother has spoken about him. This foundation is a lovely and fitting memorial to him.  I thank his family from the bottom of my heart.  They are in my prayers.

God bless you,

Bill

Just watched the interview on the BBC news website that Richard's mother gave thought it was awe inspiring after what she has been through, no mother should ever loose their son.

I have a friend currently serving with the Royal Welsh in Afghan, and my boyfriend is a serving member of the armed forces who has been in both Iraq and Afghanistan and may be going back again in 2011.

I have the greatest respect for all our serving personnel and hope they all come home safe.

I have just watched Hazel Hunt speak so well about her son and having to do something no mother should have to; say goodbye for the last time. As a civilian, never having served, I feel indbted to hereos like Richard Hunt and the countless brave servicemen our country has defneding our way of life.

It is regretful that anyone has to die for us but it is a frailty of human nature that war will always be part of the life of man. I am humbled, proud, saddened and inspired by the stories I hear but do not hav to live through. I just hope all the families of the fallen know that there are many of us who are incredibly humbled by the bravery of those who serve us all and also inspired by their families who must live with the constant worry that the worst might happen.

 Support this fund - everyone.

It is wonderful to see this website in honour of those brave men and women who serve our country both loyally and bravely. I served with the Royal Signals for nine years and found that the comradeship still continues even now after 40 years!

I an compoiling a booklet of poems which I hope can also be read out onto a CD in aid of Help for Heroes to sell to raise funds to help the wounded and also the bereaved families. So if there are any soldiers/wives etc who can contribute to this I would be grateful and a copyright will be put on the booklet to protect the contents. Please include your name (and also a pen name or just initials to go at the end of the poem as credit to you)

Hope you can all help with this worthy cause and God bless all the soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

For the Fallen

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,  Britain mourns for her dead across the sea. Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit, Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres. There is music in the midst of desolation And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables at home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond Britain's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain, As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain.

I am Proud to be Welsh and German and to think of what my both Armed Forces are doing out there. God Bless  Rhichard and all the rest like him.

Saw Mrs Hunt's interview on the BBC News and was moved by her dignity in the face of such a devastating loss.  I'm sure Richard enjoyed his job and life with his army mates.  It appears that the army 'gets into your blood'.  Good luck with the campaign. If the result of the lads' action in Aghanistan is to get rid of the terror and inequalities suffered by people in the world his loss will not have been in vain.

Having just watched Mrs Hunt on the BBC News, I felt that I had to come onto this site and commend her for her bravery.  To speak with such clarity and stedfastness after the awful period she has just endured was testament to the families of our brave heroes out in Afghanistan.  All of you parents should be filled with pride, as it is you who have made these superb and brave heroes.  My heartfelt condolences to all who have lost heroes in this and other wars, and may not one more life be lost in these campaignes.  Cymru am Byth (I am English).

I retired from the Army this August after 30 years and I hold our armed forces in the greatest possible respect.

Darren lovell ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ): To all who fall..

Firstly, how wonderful it is to see a site like this; to see acknowledgement for the men and women who serve our nation.

I have no links to the welsh contingent of our forces, but with a brother in the Royal Marines, i appreciate only too well the anguish at watching a loved one, a best friend, go off to war. It is only with an aching heart i can imagine the horror, the stark truth or the reeling pain of being filled with that sense of emptiness, those people go through, to never see their loved ones return alive. To the men and women who fall i send my sincere gratitude and my appreciation, my thanks and best wishes; that you, in another life, may find that beautiful place to rest... and wander what on earth its all about.

To the families? I can say nothing. You know how you are feeling, and nothing i can say will bring you any more peace. In time, your appreciation that they were ever yours, will subside the waves you ride.

My thanks and best wishes for the sacrifices you have made.

This is a fantastic charity,

My boyfriend is serving in the 1st Queen Dragoon guards which is the welsh cavalry and I am so proud of him. He goes back to Afghanistan for his second tour in 2011. Like Richard Hunt he is also a sniper for his regiment, which to be honest if i had my way he wouldn't be as him doing that job makes me worry even more.

Keep up the good work

All the best

I just wanted to express my appreciation for this brave and gallant soldier who's passed on. Heard of his story on the BBC News channel online. Certainly his memory is our reminder of his and other's bravery! He is greatly appreciated. Many many thanks and God bless.
